Okay, so you've gotten that annual family photoshoot done, and now you have all these gorgeous digital images of your family. You know that you want to get prints, something to display your beautiful family but you are hesitating. I get it. That extra cost, the time spent waiting on shipping, picking out frames, and not knowing where you'll display them.
So why should you get prints?
You see, I have no photos from my childhood. My mother went through a nasty divorce when I was 18 years old and due to it, she lost any and all of her belongs like photos of her children. And then, after that, a house fire happened and at that point, there was no way to regain those photos. All of my childhood memories, gone. I'm sure you are thinking, "But Vanessa, isn't that why we shouldn't get them printed?" No, this is why you should because you never know what's going to happen. And having those memories to enjoy until that point is going to be better than locking them away on your computer where you could just as easily lose them.
Holding an old photograph in your hand is such a powerful, emotional moment. When I look back at my own children's photos hanging up on my wall, I can't help but be brought back to that moment in time. And I can't imagine not having those prints. Simply put, that's not something that can be replicated with a digital file and it's the singular reason why you should get prints from every family session you have.
1 family photos are irreplaceable.
So hear me out on this one.
Laptops and computers get wet.
Hard drives crash.
Flash drives get lost.
Heaven forbid when the cloud glitches too.
This is just part of life these days. And your memories are irreplaceable. I can't get mine back. But you can take the step to ensure your memories are safe. Did you know the number one thing that someone grabs when they are being forced out of their home - fire, hurricane, some other force of nature - it's their photo albums.
2 are you even looking at them?
If you are like me, they are sitting in a digital graveyard as we speak. Yes, I am guilty of letting them sit sometimes. I had to pull them out of the graveyard and print them so that I had the memories to look at. And online, they are in just as much of a graveyard as sitting on a flash drive in your drawer or on a hard disk drive on your computer because your lovely photos of your family are being buried by other photos in your newsfeed. So print them so you can ENJOY them!
3 it's even easier now than it ever has been before!
When you get your family photos done, your photographer gives you a link to your online gallery and it's so simple now that you can easily order your prints right from that online gallery! There's no need to download and upload to some other company to print your photos. You can easily do it with the click of your mouse. The best part? You don't even need to change out of your jammies to do it. You read that right. Gone are the days of getting dressed and driving to Walgreens or CVS to pick up your prints. When you order with your photographer, they are sent right to your door. Not to mention, the prints you order with your photographer are better quality than Walgreens could ever give you. You get professional quality prints of your beautiful family sent right to your door.
4 they help you feel love
If you're feeling down in the dumps or under the weather, re-living some of your favorite happy memories can help put a smile back on your face (especially if you don't have to search through your computer to find a few photos). Decorating your home with images of the people you care about is one of the easiest ways to feel loved on a daily basis. There's a reason you'll find family photos on so many walls and mantles.
5 memories you can pass down
These days, the lifespan of digital photos is pretty minuscule; you take a picture and share it on social media where your connections spend a day or two liking it and commenting on it, then it all but disappears into your phone's camera roll. Having physical copies, especially ones that are displayed around your house, means those images can live on for years and maybe even generations if you pass them down to your kids or grandkids. All the uploading and downloading can degrade the digital file and eventually they become grainy and pixelated.
Of course, printed images deteriorate too but that's part of their charm, isn't it? These days, though, prints are on a paper that is meant to make them last longer than they use to giving you the opportunity to pass your images down through the generations.
Having a print that you can hold in your hand makes your memories all the more meaningful. Physical prints are a profound way to remember, to look back on, and to cherish. Don’t let your photos stay stuck on Instagram or your phone forever! Print them, love them, share them, adore them!
